Immigrating to New ZealandThe Government of New Zealand grants a temporary work permit to applicants who possess skills that are in demand, and who have a job offer from a New Zealand employer who is accredited by the government. Exceptions are made for professionals who want to work temporarily for a particular purpose, project, or event such as a tournament, show or film, or for certain professional reasons. Chartered Accountants are in short supply in New Zealand at this time, and are so classified on the government’s Short Term Skills Shortage list. The New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants has been lobbying to have CAs/CPAs reclassified for inclusion on the long-term skills shortage list.

Working Temporarily in New Zealand
New Zealand has a number of categories under which one can apply for temporary residence. Families accompanying someone on a temporary work permit can also apply under the Visitor, Student or Work categories. Each person must apply separately.
Processing fees are charged to everyone who submits an Expression of Interest, the preliminary step in gaining residence under the Skilled Migrant Category. The fee calculations can be done online. A migrant Levy of NZ $300 is also applicable before a Residence Visa or Permit is granted.
